Circular Pl Filter

Hoya Pro1

Sunlover double late tulip in Commissioner's Park one week before the annual Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa, Ontario. (Joanne McKinnon)When I visited the Commissioner’s Park last Sunday, I finally got a chance to try out my new Hoya Pro1 Circular PL filter.
Without the filter, the orange blends of the double late Sunlover tulip glowed like a neon sign.
I still had to make some adjustments in Photoshop, but no part was bleached out.
I hope to do the same with red roses.

Zoom Lens

Canon EFS 17-85mm

Aranjuez large cup daffodil bred by Warnaar & Co. Photographed indoors and up close. (Joanne McKinnon)Due to bad weather, I had no choice but to bring this daffodil indoors to create this shot.
The weather went from so so to bad the day before they started to open.
Not easy to photograph when the flowers are facing downwards.

Placed in a vase it took a day for the flower to face up.
Since colour is very important, I only used natural light.
The details are also important, so I got as close as I could with my EFS 17-85mm lens, which is 13.8″ (35 cm).
To reduce camera shakes, I used the tripod and the timer.

Up close, you can clearly see the pollen on the stamens.
Now I’m thinking of adding an Extension Tube to my kit, so I can get even closer.

Blackberry Photo

Cloudy Sky

Sky photo taken with Blackberry Curve 9300. .Removed noise and jpeg artifacts..Used Topaz Clean to smooth out the roufh edges. (Joanne McKinnon)

When I run errands, I don’t bring my camera with me.
Many times I wished I had, like yesterday.
The sky over Gatineau was covered with heavy clouds.
Out of curiosity, I took a shot with my Blackberry Curve 9300.
The image resolution is of course very low.
The original image had plenty of noise and compression artifacts.
I cleaned it up in Photoshop and used Topaz Clean to smooth out the harsh lines.
Not a great image but could do as a header.
