FoundFolios Preview

Portofolios

Here is a first look of my gallery on FoundFolios.
I am still getting acquainted with all the options and tutorials.
They show you how to create an Email campaign.
I’ve never done this before, so this is very helpful.
Since I am only at the ‘Free Level’ the options are understandably limited.
They do allow you to use Google Analytics to track visits.
And of course, there is the free preview of the Adbase database.

February Fog

Panorama

This morning I created a panorama with three photos.
I used the photomerge option in Photoshop to stitch the images.
Then I resized and cropped the result to fit the header.
So if you don’t see it now, you will need to visit other pages until it shows up.

Or you can see the full image in the Portfolio: February Fog

Topaz InFocus

Photoshop Plugin

When I shot this dahlia last summer, my main focus was to bring out the brushed lavender on the petals.
When I looked at the enlarged version on my computer screen, I noticed the central disk was a bit blurry.
This made the image perfect to try out InFocus by Topaz Labs.
When you look at a full size print, every detail is important.

Canon EOS 40D

Upgrading

When I bought my Canon EOS 40D several years ago, I knew I would yearn for a full-frame camera before long.
When I invest in equipment, I like to use it to its full potential before I upgrade.
Until I started reading Scott Kelby’s Digital Photography Boxed Set, Volumes 1, 2, and 3
I felt reasonably sure I knew my camera well.
I was wrong.
There are still lots I can do to improve my images.

The beauty of practicing different techniques with a digital camera is that you gain experience and waste nothing.
When you nail that shot in camera, no Photoshop trick can beat it.

Lights

Indoor lights source

Did you know that you can buy studio lights from Amazon?
I did a search and found a few kits that might work for me.
During the winter months, I tend to shoot more inside.
I have lots of windows, but mother nature doesn’t always cooperate.
Having more control of the light source, would make it possible to work even on cloudy days.

Vistek Canada

Source

I bought my DSLR camera from Vistek a few years ago
and recently my printer.
I do a lot of digital paintings and the idea of leaving the printing part of the process to someone else never appealed to me.

I did have the Aztec Lily printed on canvas by Posterjack, and they did a wonderful job of it, but I prefer having more control.
With the Epson Stylus Photo R3000, I can now print on canvas.

Vistek offers several brands of canvas and protective sprays.
They also have Hahnemuhle Gallery Wrap Monet sets.
You can find all of these in the Portfolios, Albums & Accessories section.
They are my number one source for all of my photography needs.

Rising Matboard

Canadian Source

Rising Conservation and Museum Matboards can be ordered from Opus Framing & Art Supplies. Full sheets have special shipping requirements. You can have them custom cut to save on shipping. First, you need to download and fill out their mat form. To help verify my calculation, I make a template with a Bristol board sheet.
When everything fits nicely, then I can fax them the form.

Crescent Matboards

Canadian Supplier

I finally found a great Canadian source for mounting prints.
They offer pre-cut Crescent conservation mats.
Japanese Hinging paper, linen tapes and more.
I would still prefer cutting my own mats but having full sheets shipped by mail is costly for small orders.
ClearBags.ca also sells an assortment of protective bags.
New additions to the Portfolio will now be matted and ready for a frame.

New Season

Work in Progress

Part of my work is growing my subjects.
I search for varieties that do well in my zone and are worth collecting.
I learn how to care for them by observing and keeping notes.
When the conditions are right and the blooms are perfect, the camera work begins.

I have taken hundreds of photos since the first bulb emerged in early spring.
The retouching is done with great care and not rushed.
I hope to present several fine prints in the next few months.
